The PRBA Strongly Urges the Appointment of Prof. Jenny Rivera the the New York State Court of Appeals.
(New York, New York – February 7, 2013) - The Puerto Rican Bar Association (PRBA) calls upon the New York State Senate to confirm Professor Jenny Rivera’s nomination to the New York State Court of Appeals. We commend Governor Andrew Cuomo for nominating Professor Rivera, whose legal experience, intellect, integrity and outstanding reputation as a lawyer and academic abundantly qualify her to serve on the Court.
Prof. Rivera is, by every measure, one of New York’s most gifted legal minds. For that reason, she has won the widespread support of groups that have reviewed her qualifications. Her reputation among her peers and colleagues can be readily verified by her many legal awards and honors.
Prof. Rivera’s professional background has been marked by excellence in the law and dedication to public service. As an experienced litigator and educator, Prof. Rivera has demonstrated profound insight into the issues facing diverse litigants through, among other things, her work as Bureau Chief of the Civil Rights Bureau of the New York State Attorney General’s office and at the Puerto Rican Legal Defense and Education Fund (currently Latino Justice PRLDEF).
Prof. Rivera’s credentials are in line with judicial appointees to this country’s most illustrious courts. The Senate should assiduously confirm Prof. Rivera as an Associate Judge of New York’s highest appellate court.
