PRBA's Statement in Support of Tuition Equity for Undocumented Immigrants
PRBA WRITTEN TESTIMONY ADDRESSED TO THE AMERICAN BAR ASSOCIATION COMMISSION ON HISPANIC LEGAL RIGHTS AND RESPONSIBILITIES
STATEMENT IN SUPPORT OF TUITION EQUITY FOR UNDOCUMENTED IMMIGRANTS
The Puerto Rican Bar Association ("PRBA"), one of the oldest ethnic bar associations representing the interests of over 1,000 Latino legal professionals, including attorneys, judges, law professors and law students, strongly supports the education of undocumented immigrants from kindergarten to grade 12, and beyond. We believe that a sound education for all of our children, constitutes a fundamental right ingrained in the history of our Nation. We should not deny the chance or hope of higher education to undocumented immigrants by making it cost-prohibitive. This view finds support in our national history of welcoming immigrants from all countries, as well as in our legal precedent.
