The National Health Law Program (NHeLP)

  The National Health Law Program (NHeLP) seeks a full-time attorney to join its dynamic team working to ensure access and quality health care for vulnerable people.  The ideal candidate will have strong research and writing skills; experience with or interest in federal legislative and administrative policy; the ability to work individually, in national coalitions and within communities of color; and will demonstrate an understanding of the unique issues of health care access and quality as they impact low income people and other underserved and marginalized populations.  This position is housed in NHeLP’s Washington, DC office.

  Primary Responsibilities

·        Track legislative and administrative developments relevant to the reform, preservation and expansion of health care, particularly as it affects quality, client-centered care in and for  low-income communities;

·        Conduct trainings where and as appropriate on quality, client-centered care in and for low-income communities, particularly as it affects quality, client-centered care in and for  low-income communities, with a special focus on impacts of health care reform, Medicaid and CHIP;

·        Develop analyses and publications concerning legal and policy developments, legislation and regulations concerning health care reform, Medicaid, and other issues in NHeLP’s priority areas;

·        Conduct legislative and administrative advocacy in cooperation with field attorneys and health advocates including drafting legislation, performing research, and participating in coalitions;

·        Respond to inquiries from Congressional and administrative staff and field advocates;

·        Develop and conduct trainings, presentations, outreach and education.

OUTREACH PARALEGAL/ASISTENTE LEGAL

The Immigrant Justice Project of the Southern Poverty Law Center is seeking a fully bilingual (Spanish and English) outreach paralegal for its Immigrant Justice Project. The position will be based in Atlanta, Georgia.

The outreach paralegal will perform extensive outreach to current and prospective clients and community organizations and assist with field investigations, discovery, and trial preparation. He or she will also assist the Center's attorneys with case management and support, conduct research, and organize information. Outreach to clients will involve substantial overnight travel.

PROJECT DIRECTOR
PETER CICCHINO YOUTH PROJECT
URBAN JUSTICE CENTER

The Peter Cicchino Youth Project (PCYP) in the Urban Justice Center is a legal services, systemic advocacy, and community education project that focuses on the legal needs of homeless and street-involved lesbian, gay, bisexual, queer, and questioning (LGBTQQ) young people (up to age 24) in New York City. We seek experienced attorneys as applicants for our Project Director position.

The Project Director works with program staff to coordinate PCYP’s legal services, to ensure that our clients receive high quality legal representation. The Project Director, along with program staff and youth advisory teams, will continue to identify systemic priorities and to develop PCYP’s capacity to take direction from the communities we serve. The Project Director is responsible for fundraising and managing a $400,000 annual budget, and will represent PCYP to the broader Urban Justice Center , the media, and the public.

Candidates must be attorneys who have practiced for at least three years in a relevant poverty law area, and are committed to an integrated approach to legal services and systemic advocacy, informed by clients’ experiences. Relevant areas of practice are: shelter access, landlord-tenant, immigration, child welfare, police misconduct, and public benefits practice. A demonstrated commitment to fighting for the rights for LGBTQQ people living in poverty is mandatory. The ideal candidate would be familiar with the non-legal advocacy strategies and the social justice community in New York , and understand the unique needs of LGBTQQ homeless youth. Applicants must be admitted to the New York Bar or eligible for immediate admission. Two-year commitment preferred.
